Roof apartment Renovation. Berlin, Germany
Budget 80'000 €
Schöneberg Attika is a project that works with the old wooden structures to bring light and new Charme to a dusty Berlin attic.
In a historical building in the heart of Berlin, a dark attic, that was once the recording studio of a sound engineer has been transformed into a living space. The desire of the client was to find a way to bring more openness and light in, and to open a terrace for enjoying the view overlooking the all city of Berlin.
We decided to open up the space completely and to reveal the wooden structure of the penthouse, removing all the non-structural finishes and divisions accumulated over the years. All the small windows have been replaced by bigger openings and an 8 sqm new terrace has been introduce at one end of the flat. In the living room a new full-height window defines the main space, extending it towards a west-facing balcony. The flat is now flooded with light and an amazing view over the whole city of Berlin is now being allowed. In order to preserve the loft atmosphere, the separation between bedroom and living space is design as steel-glass construction.
The material concept is to match our design philosophy, simplified and abstracted, few hand-picked materials are at the core carrying the soul of the project: the restored wooden structure, the black & the white of the steel frames, kitchen and bathroom, enriched by the precious coloured inlay of the tiles.
